[SPOILER WARNING]
This is my first review for this blog, and I got to say: what a ride this is going to be. I just finished watching Bungou Stray Dogs: Dead Apple and as big fan of the series I didn't expect any less than beautiful animations and an interesting plot, which the movie did a good job in providing. However: it was a confusing mess. As a fan of the series I expected the movie to tell a continuation of the story of the "Armed Detective Agency" but what I got was a confused mess. The movie starts with a flashback of Dazai and Chuuya defeating our main villain for the movie Tatsuhiko Shibusawa. Then it cuts to the present where people with abilities are presumably committing suicide with their own abilities. It lies in the hands of Atsushi, Kyouka and Akutagawa to defeat Shibusawa after the rest of the agency gets attacked by their own abilities.
Thats basically the gist of the movie, which is great if you ask me, however unanswered questions start popping up when we find out Dazai has joined forces with Shibusawa and Fyodor to defeat all people with abilities. This would be fine if the movie explained what the motives of the three of them are but it lacks to provide that satisfaction. Dazai's reason is not cleared neither is Fyodor's and regarding Shibusawa we are to assumed he was just "bored" because no one surpassed his expectations yet.

We also get a scene in the movie where we see the detective without ability Ranpo saving some snacks in a safe. This action seems weird at first but at the end of the movie he appears untouched as well as his snacks. Because he doesn't have any ability he disappeared like the rest of the people in the city but that doesn't explain how he knew he was going to disappear.

Of course we have to give props to the animators about the amazing shots of the fight scenes and Shibusawa's crystal room. The animation for Bungou Stray Dogs is always amazing and I'm glad that didn't change.

In the end I think the plot had a lot of potential it just wasn't explained well enough for the watcher to understand right away. Although some secrecy is good in movies, like for example Astushi being the one who killed Shibusawa the first time because he was doing experiments on him, some things just have to be explained or else the watcher will be confused and not even the best articles on "Dead Apple Explained" will help.
In the end I think the movie is worth watching if you're a big fan of Bungou Stray Dogs such as myself. I do recommend watching Season 1 and 2 before the movie though or you'll be even more loss.
