Here we go again.

When the second season of Kakegurui was announced for 2019 I was nothing more than excited and euphoric. Having enjoyed the first season a lot and having seen some spoilers for the manga I expected nothing less than a good time from this season! But did it really provide?

The season starts with the Student Council President announcing to the kids of the clans of the Momobami family that there will be a game for her chair as head of the family, as well as Student Council President of the academy. The game consists of gaining votes through gambles around the school.

We soon learn that Jabami Yumeko, our protagonist, is part of the Momobami family, specifically the Jabami Clan. She then engages in a lot of gambles with different members of the family. Soon she is poisoned in a gamble and her friends, Saotome Mary and Suzui Ryouta, have to gamble for the antidote. Fortunately, Mary had received a lot of votes from the Vice President.

After that we get a lot of gambles and learn more about the new as well as the old characters we already recognised from season one.

I had a lot of expectations for this season because I really loved the first one and it did provide. Because I don't keep up with the manga, everything was new to me except the gamble at Kirari Momobami's tower, where she and Sayaka fall off the tower, which I had already heard of.

Being a huge fan of the Vice President, I was really happy we finally got to see Ririka's face, as well as hear her voice. I know for a fact that she plays a huge part later on, especially for Mary's campaign, and I was kind of disappointed we didn't get to see it in this season. The length of it was one of my problems.

Although the length of the season was one of the few problems I had with it, I think the way it ended was really smart. One big gamble before the end, as well as the backstory of Rei Batsubami, an important character through out the season, and her connection to Jabami's sister, all tied up with a simple "rock, paper, scissors" game to determine the destiny of Rei.

In general this season of Kakegurui was really good. I think the first season was better, but the animation and the facial expressions they use for the characters are enough for you to go "Wow". Kakegurui is an amazing series worth of everyones attention, specially if you like psychological horror.
