Noragami

I know I know: How am I just watching this series now? It's seems impossible doesn't it?

Well it's true. I finished the entirety of Noragami (two seasons and four OVA's) less than a month ago and I haven't been able to express my thoughts on the series yet. Now that I have some free time lets dismember this anime shall we?

My first interest for the series came from a Yukine edit I saw on Instagram. Although I had already heard of Noragami and seen edits of the series the only things I knew about it were that the main character had a quirky personality and there was a girl with a tail. That was about it.

Then one of my friends watched it and said it was too overrated and the hype I felt for it wasn't really there anymore so I didn't watch it. As new series came along I just forgot about it.

Then after finishing My Hero Academia (let me know if you want a review on that) I needed something new to watch so that's where it started. I picked up the series and I'm glad I did.

Noragami follows the god of calamity Yato, who's a stray god, which basically means he doesn't have a temple of his own. After being saved from being hit by a bus by a girl named Iki Hiyori, that is able to see him, he visites her in the hospital and tells her all about the god "realm" as well as the evil ghost entities that take control of people.

Hiyori is now between death and life and thats where her tail comes from. Soon after, Yato adopts Yukine, a dead 14 year old boy, as his regalia.

From there on we are presented to multiple characters like Bishamon, the goddess of war who has a grudge against Yato, as well as her regalia, Nora, who's also Yato's regalia, Kofuku, the goddess of poverty, as well as her regalia and a lot more characters.

The first thing even the people who don't like the series have to admit is that the openings for this anime are one of the best ever. The style of the two openings are gorgeous and consistent, with plays around greys and the main colours of the characters. The songs for both openings are also great, Hello Sleepwalkers being my favourite, which is an unpopular opinion.

I think the story is also consistent with it's content, the first season revolving more around Yato as well as Yukine and Hiyori and the second season revolving more around the gods in general, giving us a clear picture of why Bishamon hates Yato so much, and the growth from enemies to acquaintances and maybe even friends? That's open for interpretation.

After the two season there are four OVA's. These OVA's are just fun little series which focus on the main cast living their life and nothing more. Although they are just for fun you should still give them a try!

All and all I don't know if I liked this series so much because I had low expectations for it but I trust my instincts and they tell me this series is really good! If you're considering watching Noragami, give it a go! You won't regret it!
